So yesterday, I was engaged in a discussion. It was about gun control. I was called ‘insane’, had my status as transgender be the reason I’m ‘insane’ as well as the fact that I am a brony. So I would reply to everyone involved in the conversation. Not my fault, twitter does that automatically. Now I was talking to pro-gun people and they apparently didn’t like what I was saying–so what was the right thing to do? Just not talk to me? Why NO dear reader-it was to report me as spam and here’s the result:
Hello,
This account was suspended for sending multiple unsolicited messages using the @reply and/or mention feature. These features are intended to make communication between people on Twitter easier. Twitter monitors the use of these features to make sure they are used as intended and not for abuse. Using either feature to post messages to a bunch of users in an unsolicited or egregious manner is considered an abuse of its use, which results in account suspension.
SO basically because I replied to people giving my opinion in a conversation; twitter suspended my account. Because pro-gun nuts didn’t like my anti-gun opinion (I’m not really ‘anti-gun’ I’m anti-assault weapon) they decided to report me as spam. Which is ridiculous. And twitter went along with it instead of investigating as they claim. If they did, they would have found anti-LGBT, anti-brony communications which are just as bad as anything I said.
Effectively, Twitter has allowed and anticipated in censorship. While I am NOT saying don’t ever suspend me if I actually break the rules, I am calling for greater scrutiny when enforcing the rules.
Otherwise, Twitter will continue to be a place that fosters censorship and anti-lgbt slurs.
